From Florence Quick, Association President: “Who are we and what do we do? Questions which new residents frequently ask. Well, first and foremost our job is to greet new residents with a packet of information and helpful tips. Coming into a very different environment from our former homes with about 150 folks can be quite intimidating. We are available to help. A card with my name, telephone number and room number are attached to the top of the envelope for easy access. Call me anytime you have a question or need help.
Three times yearly we publish a first-name telephone book. First name first because honestly, it’s difficult enough to remember first names, much less last. These are distributed to each resident, taped on the door.
Several times a year we sponsor a party for members. Music, food, drinks and a lot of fun. This is a great way to get to know your fellow residents.
We also sponsor two BINGO games each month. This activity is very popular and well attended. Five dollars for four cards with great monetary prizes as well as gift cards and a bottle or two of wine.
Of course, all of the above costs money which we raise with three dues collections of $5.00 each throughout the year. Everyone agrees that they receive a good bang for their buck.
We also operate a store on the premises. We stock many items, including a most needed item – toilet paper. Best buy in town.
However, I am most proud of our annual Christmas thank-you fund for our staff. The membership voted to contribute ten dollars per month. This adds up to a very heartfelt thank-you to our hard-working staff. No tipping is allowed, so this is our way of showing our appreciation.
All of you seasoned residents know this, but new residents often feel lost at first, so our hope is that our information packet and our smiling faces will make your transition a little easier. We urge you to attend as many of the activities sponsored by the Association and those sponsored by La Posada that might interest you. There are many from which to choose.
Welcome to the new residents and greetings and smiles to everyone!”
