Alicia grew up in West Virginia. Her family originated from Scotland (dad’s family), and Germany (mom’s family). Most of the men back then worked both as farmers and in the coal mine. Her father was a butcher, and one of her grandparents was the Superintendent of a coal mine.
Alicia left West Virginia at age 17 to see the rest of the country and landed in Denver, Colorado. Eventually, she married a childhood sweetheart and moved to New York City, then Southern California where she worked as a Psych-nurse for some years. Her husband’s work took them next to Pleasanton CA and finally to Santa Cruz. While living in Pleasanton, Alicia opened her own business, HeartTouch Integrative Therapy. She has worked and taught in Scotland, England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Malaysia, and Hawaii, retiring just a few years ago.
Alicia saw the ocean for the first time right here in Santa Cruz when she was traveling at age seventeen, and she vowed someday to live here. Her dream came true in 1996 and she has been here ever since!
Her only son, Wes, lives in the western mountains of North Carolina, and is active in extreme sports such as hiking the Colorado Trail and the John Muir Trail. Also an avid river kayaker and ultra runner, Wes works in Education, where he helps schools find curriculums that work in today’s world. Alicia also has an eight-year old grandson, Russell, who is the apple of her eye.
Alicia loves to cook, bake, and entertain. As a hobby seamstress, she has created not only her own clothing, but wedding dresses, headpieces, and beaded shoes. She loves to garden and watch flowers bloom. She was an avid fisherwoman and outdoor enthusiast. Today she is excited to live here with us and enjoy relaxing and getting accustomed to her new lifestyle. Emma Lou, her nineteen-year-old cat, lives with her here at La Posada.
Help us say hello to one of our newest residents!
